Curtis LaForche woont in een klein stadje in Ohio samen met zijn vrouw Samantha en dochter Hannah, een 6-jarig doof meisje. Wanneer Curtis angstaanjagende dromen krijgt, houdt hij de visioenen voor zichzelf. Hij probeert zijn angst te onderdrukken door obsessief een stormbunker te bouwen in zijn achtertuin. Zijn schijnbaar onverklaarbare gedrag zorgt voor verwarring in zijn omgeving, maar de daaruit vloeiende spanningen in zijn huwelijk en de gemeenschap vallen in het niet bij wat zijn dromen werkelijk betekenen...
